Drift Eliminators

Drift eliminators are used to capture water droplets in the air stream that otherwise would be lost to the atmosphere.Entrapping these droplets is important for not only conserving water as a resource but also to prevent cooling tower water from contaminating the area peripheral to the cooling tower.
The CD-100 drift eliminator is a blade (profile) type drift eliminator designed for optimal drift entrapment efficiency, very low pressure drop and excellent economies.
Made out of UV resistant UPVC confirming to standards set by CTI-STD 136, the CD-100 drift eliminator uses the 3-pass system to air efficiently out of the drift eliminator while restricting the drift loss to less than 0.05% of circulating water.

Principle of working
CD-100 achieves excellent drift elimination efficiency despite its relatively low depth of 100-mm. This is a result of the uniquely designed notches on the surface of the blade. These notches, positioned at the point on the drift eliminator blade where the air changes direction advances the principles of drift elimination.
Not only do the drift droplets stay on the surface of the blade due to inertial forces but also as the drift laden air enters the drift eliminator assembly the notch on the bottom surface of the blade entraps the drift droplets while causing minimal resistance to the circulating air.

The air then changes direction to follow the sinusoidal path of the drift eliminator while the remaining drift droplets continue in their original direction where they are trapped by the notch on the inner side of the drift eliminator.
This unique design feature helps keep the depth of CD-100 lower than conventional drift eliminators thus achieving similar efficiency at lower costs.

Structure and Strength
In Cross flow cooling tower applications, the notches serve as almost vertical water conduits removing the water droplets out of the drift eliminator area and returning them back into the tower
In the Counter flow arrangement CD-100 provides a rugged structure with a very low-pressure drop. This results in high drift elimination efficiency while exerting minimum driving force on the fan.
The CD-100 assembly gets a cellular structure upon fabrication of the individual blades in the spacers. Upon assembly the blades nest into each other with a 20% overlap area between adjacent blades. The special locking pin arrangement for CD-100 facilitates quick and simple assembly at site.
