General
The Self Aligning Machine Adjustable Reamer (SAMAR) is developed to fulfill the requirement of micro adjustable reamer.
Outstanding features of this reamer are :
a) It covers a wide range of sizes within one reamer.
b) It has replaceable tungsten carbide tipped cutting blades.
c) It has a positive constant float through-out the range
d) The Float is at the cutting end eliminating special floating tool holders.
e) It is easy to set size in the machine itself.
f) No Special wrenches or tools are required for setting.
g) Two bladed construction, with diametrically opposed blades fully supported over the width of blades allows,
i) Greater Coolant and chip passage.
ii) Lower Cutting Pressure
iii) Cooler cutting permitting closer tolerance and finer finish of the bore.
Construction of SAMAR
The blades have a diagonal key-way in each. This forms 'X' when they are assembled. A diamond guide is located within these key-ways. The pair of blades with the diamond-guide which has an elongated hole in position between the blades is assembled in a carrier where they are held by guide pin. This pin in Conjunction with the elongated hole in the diamond determines the float of the blades in operation. The carrier is controlled in its longitudianl movement by means of carrier pin which is positioned between the Adjuster and lock ring. When this assembly of rings is rotated along the micrometer threads on the shank body, carrier responds by moving the diamond guide in its key-way thus expanding or retracting the blades.
SETTING SIZE
Use micrometer to check over blades. Rotate the ring assembly till required size is obtained. Adjuster ring with micrometer reading can help obtaining the correct size quickly. Then lock the position by lock ring. Each division of the micrometer reading on Adjuster ring is 0.02 m.m.

SETUP INSTRUCTIONS FOR SAMAR
* Samars are available with taper or straight shanks.
* It is advisable that the machine be checked for alignment of centres to ensure best performance.
* Preliminary drilling should be followed by light cut in the bore before finishing with SAMAR. This ensures concentricity.
* SAMAR should be installed in horizontal plane on lathes, turret lathes & automats. Then if necessary rotated to plane of greatest error in machine. The built in pre-determined float will compensate for misalignment and indexing errors.
* SAMARS can be used in horizontal, vertical & rotating positions.
* Overall stock removal should be 0.08 / 0.12 m.m for SAMAR 04 to 01 series & 0.12 / 0.17 mm for SAMAR 1 to 17 series.
* Feed for reaming 0.15 to 1.5 mm per revolution according to diameter.
How To Order SAMAR
Please help us to recommend you the proper type of blades by informing us :
(1) Material to be reamed. |
(2) Whether required to ream blind bore or through bore. |
(3) Any special requirement. |
(4) Repeat order for spare blades please quote the Serial No. of SAMAR. |

POSSIBLE CAUSE OF CHATTER PROBLEM |
SOLUTIONS |
|
|
1. Lack of rigidity in set up of machine. |
1. Check holding of part, loose slides or machine gibs. |
2. Excessive clearance on blades. |
2. Reduce clearance angle on blades by grinding 3° to 5° primary. |
3. Insufficient reaming stock. |
3. Increase reaming stock allowance. |
4. Too little back taper on blades |
4. Increase back taper. |
5. Dull cutting blades. |
5. Regrind or replace blades. |
6. Improper speed to feed ratio. |
6. Alter the speed to feed, changing one or both to find best ratio. |
